About bpaste (bpa.st)
bpaste, served at bpa.st and also known as bpaste.net, is a straightforward pastebin for sharing code. It is an instance of pinnwand, an open source pastebin written in Python and released under the MIT licence by its maintainer, supakeen.
The lexer list puts Python and Python Traceback at the top, alongside plain text (the default), an autodetect option and hundreds of other languages. You can drop or upload several files into one paste, each with its own highlighting, and tick an option to use a longer, harder to guess URL. There are no accounts: you paste, choose a lexer and an expiry, and share the link.
Every paste expires. The available periods are 1 day, 1 week and 1 month, and the site states plainly that it does not offer non-expiring pastes.
How to create a paste
- Go to bpa.st and paste your code into the text area.
- Choose a lexer (or autodetect) and an expiry period, and optionally tick Use a longer URI.
- Select Paste! and share the link you are given.
pinnwand also accepts pastes from the command line. Using the curl endpoint:
echo "print('hello')" | curl -X POST https://bpa.st/curl -F 'raw=<-'
The response includes the paste URL, a raw URL and a removal URL. A JSON API is available at /api/v1/paste, and the steck command line client can paste multiple files.
Things to know
- Not private: paste URLs are shareable by anyone who has them and the site warns they could be guessed. There is no password or encryption.
- Removal: only the creator can remove a paste, using the removal link tied to a browser cookie. Otherwise it is deleted when it expires.
- Abuse reports: the operator gives a contact address on the removal page for illicit content.
- Analytics: the site loads Simple Analytics.
- Liability: the site does not claim ownership or copyright of pasted content and assumes no liability for it.
Frequently asked questions
How long are pastes kept on bpa.st?
You can choose 1 day, 1 week or 1 month. The site states that it does not offer non-expiring pastes, so every paste is removed automatically when its expiry is reached.
How do I delete a paste on bpa.st?
Use the removal link in the top bar of the paste page. It works through a cookie set when you created the paste, so if you block that cookie you will need to wait for the paste to expire. Removed content may stay in cache for about 2 minutes.
Are bpa.st pastes private?
No. Anyone with the link can view a paste, and the site warns that paste URLs could be guessed, so it should not be relied on for privacy.
