About Imgur
Imgur is one of the best-known image hosts on the web. It started in 2009 as a simple place to host pictures for Reddit posts and grew into a social site in its own right, with a public gallery where users vote and comment on posts. It is now owned by MediaLab.AI, Inc.
As well as single images, Imgur supports albums and short videos, and offers a public API that many third-party apps and tools have used for uploads.
The most important point for readers in the UK is that Imgur is not currently available here. Since 30 September 2025 the site, its apps and images embedded on other websites have all been blocked for UK visitors. We have kept this listing because Imgur links remain extremely common across forums and older web pages, and it helps to know why they no longer load.
How to upload to Imgur
Outside the UK, you can drag an image onto the Imgur home page or use the "New post" button, then copy the link it gives you. Signing in lets you manage your uploads later. Inside the UK, uploading is not possible, and you will need to choose one of the alternatives in this directory.
Things to know
- UK block: Imgur restricted UK access on 30 September 2025 while the Information Commissioner's Office was investigating MediaLab over children's data. In February 2026 the ICO fined MediaLab £247,590, finding that the platform had let under-13s use the service without age checks. The ICO said the withdrawal was the company's own commercial decision, and that further action could follow if access is restored without the agreed changes. Our check from a UK connection on 8 October 2026 confirmed the block was still in place.
- 2023 policy change: New terms took effect on 15 May 2023. Imgur said it would remove old, unused and inactive content not tied to a user account, and banned nudity, pornography and sexually explicit content. Many older anonymous uploads embedded on forums disappeared as a result.
- Keep backups: Because anonymous uploads have been purged before, do not rely on Imgur as the only copy of an image.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Imgur from the UK?
No. Since 30 September 2025 Imgur has blocked UK visitors from viewing, uploading and logging in, and Imgur images embedded on other websites also fail to load for UK users. A test from a UK connection on 8 October 2026 still showed the message "Content not available in your region".
Why did Imgur leave the UK?
The block followed an investigation by the Information Commissioner's Office into how Imgur handled children's data. The ICO fined owner MediaLab £247,590 in February 2026 and described the withdrawal as a commercial decision taken by the company.
Does Imgur allow explicit content?
No. Since terms that took effect on 15 May 2023, Imgur bans nudity, pornography and sexually explicit content, while still permitting artistic nudity.
